When I try to download SQL Server 2005 it gives me a fatal error. Is there a way to do this tutorial without the designated software?

Yes of course there are other software (Database Engines) like Oracle, but SQL Server is the easiest and most compatible with Visual Studio. Actually i haven’t read anything yet about using Oracle with Visual Studio (if it’s possible at all)Anyway, try to download SQL Server 2005 Express Edition from another computer and copy it to yours, maybe your computer have a problem or something. PS: Some books comes with a 120 days trial Edition or the Express edition itself.Good Luck
