Your email, your DNS and the majority of your content and accreditation are going to stay the same all you need to make sure of is that your domain should be under your ownership and that you have a registrar that is ready to take on your services. Remember that it is important to make sure that this is a process where all the I’s get dotted and all the T’s get crossed.

In many cases, your registrars will be able to take care of this for you. Most registrars will have a form on their website that allows you to transfer your domain. It is entirely possible to go through this process without speaking to anyone, should you wish to. Essentially, you need to go to the registrar that you are transferring to, and make the request for them to take over your domain name. Then they will in turn arrange the transfer for you. It really is this easy!

The person or company who is administrating to your domain, who you are transferring from, will need to agree to accept the transfer. They will also need to verify the authenticity of the place that you are transferring to. Remember that this transfer should not take more than five days; in many cases, it will take much less than that. It is also important to remember that your domain needs to have been registered for more than sixty days before you can transfer registrars. Also keep in mind that things like legal disputes and bankruptcy can make a transfer difficult if not impossible. Those are usually listed as fairly rare circumstances though.

Take a moment to consider what services that your registrar is currently administrating to you. Are you happy with the level of service that they are providing and are you pleased at the way that they do it? If the answer to either question is no, it might be time to get that transfer process started!
