Product Description

I would highly recommend this as a resource for any developers who want to really dig in and solidify their working knowledge of PHP and web services, or just want to explore the nuances and complexities of XML DTDs and namespaces. — Nathan Smith, Godbit Project Pro PHP XML and Web Services is the authoritative guide to using the XML features of PHP 5 and PHP 6. No other book covers XML and Web Services in PHP as deeply as this title. The first four chapters introduce the core concepts of XML required for proficiency, and will bring you up to speed on the terminology and key concepts you need to proceed with the rest of the book. Next, the book explores utilizing XML and Web Services with PHP5. Topics include DOM, SimpleXML, SAX, xmlReader, XSLT, RDF, RSS, WDDX, XML-RPC, REST, SOAP, and UDDI. Author Robert Richards, a major contributor to the PHP XML codebase, is a leading expert in the PHP community. In this book, Richards covers all topics in depth, blending theory with practical examples. Youll find case studies for the most popular web services like Amazon, Google, eBay, and Yahoo. The book also covers XML capabilities, demonstrated through informative examples, in the PEAR libraries.

      Product Description

Standards play crucial roles in many different aspects of today’s economy. They can define meanings of semantics, product interfaces, process steps, or performance levels. Interorganisational standards are specifications that define business-related semantics and processes, which are made accessible to other organisations’ information systems. While modular organisation forms such as supply chain networks demand such standards for higher flexibility, XML-based Web Services offer a relatively new technological platform to develop such standards. The development of comprehensive interorganisational standards, however, is far from being completed. This book thus answers the questions, how interorganisational standards are developed and how different actors should get involved in it. The author uses actor-network theory to conduct two in-depth case studies on ebXML and RosettaNet. While researchers will find new explanations for the development of interorganisational standards, managers and executives will benefit from the strategic implications this book discusses.

Internet Strategy: The Road to Web Services Solutions reminds readers that several attempts have been made to convince the world that DOT. COM was developed to take over businesses, and the traditional way of creating businesses and running organizations would be condemned to the past. One of those attempts led to the Application Service Provision model, from which the current Web Services business model takes its origins. As organizations start to carefully invest again, Internet Strategy: The Road to Web Services Solutions shows that the focus is on delivering value and enabling growth. The book concentrates on how to create, execute and evolve a customer-centric strategy of any Internet-based management strategy in order to provide valuable customer experiences. Internet Strategy: The Road to Web Services Solutions presents how enabling technologies are as important as ever. It points out that there’s a need to move to new levels in thinking and execution, to help organizations maintain cost efficiencies and enable growth in revenues and profitability.

The 17 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 31 full papers and 30 research-in-progress papers that were accepted for presentation at the workshop from a large number of submissions. The topics covered are electronic markets, electronic services, radio frequency identification, service-oriented architectures, virtual communities, and Web intelligence.
